History and Philosophy

Latimer Sommers & Associates' present association was founded in 1987 as the successor of two previous firms dating back to 1954. Six partners privately hold the firm as a Professional Association. Professional engineers in the firm are licensed in 38 states and perform services in a minimum 15 states each year.

LSA completes the design of systems having an average annual total construction cost in excess of $500 million. The firm's licensed engineers specialize in mechanical and electrical system design, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, lighting, and power distribution.  The knowledge of these systems is essential in developing a coordinated building design in consideration of the whole project team. LSA is continuously researching the latest smart building technologies as they are always evolving.

LSA’s design philosophy requires the engineer to be qualified to perform both mechanical and electrical design for each project and carry it from the initial contact, through design, construction, and commissioning. This ensures consistency and coordination while reinforcing design solutions with on-site interaction with contractors. A thorough drafting staff translates the engineer’s concepts into consistent and easy-to-read construction documents which are the key to reliable bids and clarity for the constructor.
